The phrase "lifetime warranty" appears on more products than you might expect — and means something different on almost all of them. Some companies replace broken products without hesitation, no questions asked, for as long as you own the item. Others define "lifetime" as the expected useful life of the product, which conveniently turns out to be about three years. Others exclude the exact type of damage that actually occurs in normal use.
ForeverBacked was built to do the verification work so buyers don't have to. Every product on this site has had its actual warranty policy read and confirmed. What follows is a category-by-category breakdown of what genuinely holds up.
We only include products where the warranty policy covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product — with no arbitrary time limit. "Limited lifetime" is acceptable when the limitations are reasonable (no coverage for abuse or misuse). "Lifetime of the product" defined as 2-3 years is not.
Tools & Hardware
Hand tools are where lifetime warranties are most common and most consistently honored. The tool industry has a long tradition of standing behind its products — partly because quality tools genuinely last decades, and partly because a contractor who trusts a brand becomes a customer for life.
Estwing explicitly states on their own warranty page that their hammers do NOT carry a lifetime warranty. This surprises many buyers who assume a 90-year-old American tool brand would offer one. Always verify before assuming.
Cookware & Kitchen
Premium cookware is one of the best lifetime warranty categories because high-quality pans genuinely last generations with proper care. The lifetime warranty is as much a signal of build quality as it is a promise of replacement.
KitchenAid Stand Mixers are frequently assumed to have a lifetime warranty given their price and reputation. They carry a 1-year warranty only. Calphalon's nonstick warranty is limited — their hard-anodized cookware is the version with meaningful lifetime coverage.
Bags & Luggage
Bags are one of the strongest lifetime warranty categories — several brands have built their entire reputation on it. The key distinction is between brands where warranty honoring is institutional and brands where it's aspirational marketing.
Herschel Supply Co. quietly downgraded from a lifetime warranty to a 5-year warranty. Several other brands have made similar changes post-acquisition. Always check the current policy rather than relying on what you read a few years ago.
Knives & Cutlery
The knife category has some of the strongest and most consistently honored lifetime warranties in any product category. Premium knife brands understand their customers are lifetime buyers — someone who trusts a brand at 25 will still be buying from them at 65.
Worth noting: Benchmade's LifeSharp program includes free lifetime sharpening — mail your knife in anytime and they sharpen and return it at no charge. We covered this in detail in our full Benchmade warranty guide.

Clothing lifetime warranties are rarer and more nuanced than hard goods. The strongest in the category tend to be from brands where durability is core to the product identity — workwear and performance gear rather than fashion.
Dickies, Thursday Boot Co., Blundstone, Wolverine 1000 Mile, and Irish Setter boots were all considered for ForeverBacked and removed after warranty verification. None offer lifetime coverage — most are 90 days to 2 years. Brand reputation is not the same as warranty policy.
Outdoor & Survival Gear
Outdoor gear is where lifetime warranties matter most — you're often using these products in situations where failure has real consequences. The best brands in this space treat the warranty as part of the product's core promise.
Vortex Optics deserves special mention — their VIP (Violence of Impact Proof) warranty is arguably the strongest in any product category. They cover accidental damage, and have repaired optics that were run over by vehicles and dropped from significant heights.

Everyday carry gear benefits enormously from lifetime warranties — these are items used daily, often for years, that take significant wear. The brands that offer genuine lifetime coverage in this category have built reputations that justify premium pricing.
Brands to Approach With Caution
Not every brand that claims a lifetime warranty actually delivers one. These are products we investigated and either excluded or flagged during the ForeverBacked verification process.
Leatherman Wave+ — 25-year warranty, not lifetime. Excellent tool, but the warranty language is frequently misreported online as lifetime coverage.
Maglite — changed from a lifetime warranty to a 10-year warranty. Many articles still describe it as lifetime. Verify before purchasing with warranty expectations.
Estwing — explicitly not a lifetime warranty per their own warranty documentation, despite being a 90-year-old American-made tool brand.
Casio G-Shock, Invicta, Citizen, Bulova — none offer lifetime warranties despite their durability reputations. Most are 1-2 years.
Herschel Supply — downgraded from lifetime to 5-year warranty. Legitimate brand, but the warranty change is significant.
Every product on ForeverBacked.com has been individually verified against the brand's current warranty policy — not secondhand sources or old articles. If a warranty changes, we update or remove the product. That's the only standard worth holding.
